XP - Reclaim disk space by deleting previous Restore Points and keeping just the most recent System Restore Point...

1. Right click on drive letter you want to remove the previous Restore Points by going to My Computer and selecting Properties.

2. Press the Disk Cleanup button and then click on the More Options tab.

3. Press the Clean up.. button under System Restore and you will get a window asking you if you're sure you want to delete all but the most recent restore point. Press YES.

4. Click on the OK, button of the Disk Cleanup window and you will get a window asking you if you want to perform these actions. Just press YES.

RE: Reclaim Disk Space

Easiest way is to do the following:

Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup

and then click the 'More Options' tab, System Restore > [Clean up...] button.

With SP2 installed certain features have been moved around.

Well h I have gone through everything on my computer as you have suggested when i click disk cleanup it hangs and does not scan,I.m not sure what to do now as I really need to clean up old files on my computer I have a 38.2gb and only 9.72 free,
Sometimes I am not able to perform some tasks if i dont delete or remove something from my system but to be honest There is not many files on as Ive deleted almost everything (No music,no videos} Which i know will use a lot of my resourses up }
I dont think my old files are being deleted so how can i reclaim more disk space?
Is there any other way to get rid of all the old un-used files ?rather than going through . Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup because this is simply not working on my computer.

Apply the same instructions, but do it in Safe Mode. It may be some other application is stopping Disk Cleanup from functioning.

SAFE MODE = Hold down F8 during startup.

See if that helps.
