Lightbulb vBMp3 Pro Player Survey

vBMp3 Pro Player Survey
We would like to hear views on what you would like from a commercial version of our Mp3 player. You will find listed below a few requests we have received already, but we do value your input on designing a feature packed player that would benefit you as a customer.
  • Current Suggested Specifications:
  • The possibility to upload Mp3’s files directly.
  • Option to enable downloading Mp3’s from your site.
  • Usergroup settings on most features.
  • Import/Export system.
  • Mp3 ID Tag reading after upload (This means the player would read the data from the mp3. No need to type details in manually, unless you wish to edit the details).
  • Mp3 player designed smaller.
  • Image upload of Mp3 player background.
  • AJAX based rating system of mp3’s.
If there is any functionality you would like to see then we would like you to post your views on this thread.

Please note in order for some of the aforementioned features to function correctly, you will require root access to your server, this means you will need to be running your forum from a VPS or dedicated server. A server test script would be made available prior to purchasing.

Off-topic posts on this thread will be deleted!

Re: vBMp3 Pro Player Survey

From a legal stand-point, I would avoid anything to do with an option to enable downloading Mp3s from my site. This may be seen as a breach of intellectual property rights. It's one thing to allow members to upload their favourite tracks and play them for themselves and others but entirely another to permit others to copy those tracks you have uploaded. Just my lay opinion, of course, but a potentially difficult issue in the current litigious mindset of the music industry.

There is that issue regarding copyright. But many customers that we have customized the free version for are very large forums, and they use it for podcasting their own material. Many US artists these days will permit the use of their work if asked. But I don't want to promote illegal copyrighted material, this would be upto the admininstrator's discision. Many sharing scripts these days permit downloading of mp3's, this is why I placed the option in the poll.

Exclamation Re: vBMp3 Pro Player Survey

Here are very important features that must be included before I will use this myself:
  1. This must be fully integrated with vbulletin's permission system.
  2. None of the php files that this will use can be directly linked to that will bypass the permission system.
  3. If you directly link to any file and you do not have permission to view a message must come up that says you do not have permission to view.
  4. No personal forum information on your php files should be allowed to show up that will escape the permission system.
If you don't know what I mean by any of this then please refer to the serious leak in security by going to any members only vbulletin forum and go to their showgroups.php file. This file sits outside vbulletin's own permission system and allows any "guest" to see private information like members names! (You need a third party hack to protect that page).

So to conclude if your vBMp3 Pro Player has no security holes or files that sit outside the vbulletin permission system I would consider using it. If however there are any files that pose a security risk to my locked private forum I would not recommend this to anyone.

So by "Pro" I will assume you have no security holes in this right?

Re: vBMp3 Pro Player Survey

Security, is an issue thats always been a number one priority. Even our free vB mp3 player's PHP controlled XML read cannot be accessed via any browser. Many people have already asked why they can't see information from it's index file, this also gives a white page and can only be accessed via the flash file.

Part of the system, will not be using PHP - since we have coders that can code in Perl with better security, when uploading files. All modifications are checked prior to release, by top coders - if any leaks are found they are fixed immediately.

The system will be fully integrated into vBulletin's user permission system, no files will be accessible via just browsing any files - since we don't use standard programming methods. So you can rest assured security on this project will be high and not an issue.
