Many people are asking this question, do you upgrade to
Microsoft’s new Vista operating system, or stay with Windows XP.
Vista can be expensive depending on the version you require, however you can pick up full versions and sealed at
http://www.ebay.co.uk for much less than the price of the retail upgrade.
If you’re thinking of upgrading to Vista, then I would recommend you use their Upgrade Advisor Tool first – this should inform you of most problematic software or drivers that are not compatible with Vista. I say ‘most’ because it does give some false positives – I tried the tool first, and the only driver that it stated I needed to upgrade was my printer, and some programs may need re-installing.
However, after taking the decision to upgrade based on the Vista Upgrade Advisor Tool – I wish I didn’t bother. Once the upgrade had completed, which took over 2 hours, I found not only was my printer non-functional, but also the drivers for my graphics card and WiFi adaptor also required updated drivers. Luckily, I used an Ethernet connection to get connected to the internet to find the drivers I required. But this was a bad idea; neither manufacturer had updated their drivers to be Vista compatible. Needless to say Vista can stay on the shelf, until I can get new drivers for my devices which were brand new last year!

Microsoft Vista – then post them here.
