tvtuner audio taken as mike input instead of regular mike

msn messenger7.5 microphone settings are changed when a tvtuner is activated,
( 2 systems, different brand of tvtuner and soundcard, same issue)
settings in the window xp audio control panel are muting the microphone and
when
you try to adjust the microphone level in messenger wizard it is the tvtuner
audio that is taken as audio input instead of the microphone,

ie: tuner off, adjust the mike in msn messenger , all is working.. activate
tv
tuner settings change by themselves and mike does not work anymore tvtuner
audio
takes over in messenger .. i could do screenprint of settings with mike
working and after when tuner messes them up..
both tuner card use the line-in input of the snd card for audio in put in
the system...

both systems are fully updated, sp2, recent drivers,

1st pc
ecs k7s5a pro ,amd cpu,radeon7500 agp,ati tvwonderpro,sndblasterlive
2nd pc
ecs k7sem ,amd cpu,nvidia,AC97 builtin sndcard.

hope the mobo are not the source !!

thx

Re: tvtuner audio taken as mike input instead of regular mike

Greetings,

I have seen this behavior before and seems to be by design (at least in ATI's case).

Re: tvtuner audio taken as mike input instead of regular mike

Yes, this is not a bug. It is a new undocumented feature/enhancement and is
just one of the many free new undocumented features/enhancements included in
every new release of the software. Remember that these undocumented features
are provided "as-is", so no support is provided for them by the company, so
use them at your own risk.

With that said, it doesn't sound like there is a problem with the software.
It is working exactly as the manufacturer determined you should want it to,
so the problem is in the expectations section of the user, which tends to
become bloated. Try reading the manual first and see if that reduces the
number of expectations to a manageable number. Be sure to monitor the
frustration level while you are doing this, as it tends to increase
dramatically during this process and, if left unchecked, can cause unexpected
and sometimes serious problems.

If expectations are still high after reading the manual, you will need to
use the software for a few minutes. This almost always reduces the
expectations to a very low level. Once expectations are low enough, the
software will begin to work as intended, far exceeding user expectations.

Re: tvtuner audio taken as mike input instead of regular mike

tuner manufacturer says WINDOWS can only use 1 capture device at a time
for instance ''the tuner'' or ''MSN'' noth both at the same time..hmm
(so it seems that a human is more multitask than the O/S ..at least in this
case!!.)

so maybee i'm in the wrong forum with this one i'll ask in the O/S forum
when i get a chance
