Can't post a new topic on newsgroups

On my home computer - new Dell with Windows XP SP2 Home edition, I can log
into the XP newgroups and can post a reply to a message, however it won't let
me post a new topic question. When I click on the "New" icon, I get a little
red fist showing and it won't go to the post screen. I have a dialup
connection with Earthlink Total Access and Earthlink Accelerator running. I
also have the Windows firewall and Symantec antivirus running. Any ideas on
what the problem may be? Thanks for your time. I posted a previous message
about the same computer won't let me download from Windows Updates. It looks
for the updates for a minute or so then I get the error message "The website
has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to
view." and error code 0x8024001D.

Re: Can't post a new topic on newsgroups

Rename C:\Windows\Softwaredistribution\DataStore to C:\Windows\Softwaredistribution\DataStore.poo and that
will reset Microsoft Update after rebooting.

You will eXPerience a far better, and quicker, newsgroup posting
by using the Outlook Express newsreader rather than relying on the
web-based newsgroup web site:

Rename the DataStore folder, or the file within it, DataStore.edb ?

"On my home computer" so presumably your post here came from somewhere else.
What newsgroups client do you use at home? Outlook Express? To which
newsgroups server do you connect? To Microsoft's (msnews.microsoft.com)?
Or maybe to a read-only server and why you cannot post?

Vanuard:
Not sure really, pretty new to this computer stuff even though I'm 57 yrs.
old!! I just go the microsoft newsgroup site and login. I can post a reply
to message but I can't post a new topic message. I know I don't use Outlook
Express or any of that stuff. I have a dialup connection running Earthlink
Total Access and Earthlink Accelerator, Windows XP firewall and Symantec
anitvirus if that makes any difference. Thanks everyone for you suggestions
and help so far.

Try turning off the Earthlink accelerator. Personally I would get rid of
since misleading users that there is acceleration by only partially
downloading the contents of images is NOT accelerating you connection. Not
downloading some of a web page's content is not acceleration your
connection. You can really speed up your speed by configuring the browser
to not download images at all, but that makes for boring browsing.

Turn off any popup blocker. I don't bother using the crippled webnews
interface to newsgroups. It could perhaps require using a popup to write
new posts, and your popup blocker is blocking that new-post popup.
