Hello people!!!

I have a problem with my computer and i havent got a clue wat it is or how 2 fix it!!!

My computer loads as normal and i enter my password and then i see my desktop. Then after about 30 seconds after it's finished loading i get an error appear saying:

Application Error
Application as encountered an error and needs to close. Sorry for any inconvienience this may cause.

I dont think it is damaging my computer but it get really annoying sometims.

Wen i click on More info it says something like: Appname : mgrupd.exe

My computer is Windows XP and i've had it for 2 years and never had this problem b4.

Ne ideas ne1?

Hi WiGGy,

Try running the System File Checker within Windows XP. It looks like a dynamic link library file that is not up-to-date. This happens sometimes when old software is installed and certain .dll files are replaced by old versions.

Click Start | Run type cmd to bring up the command prompt (omit the quotes!)

At the command prompt type sfc

You will need your Windows XP CDROM inserted into your drive for this procedure to work. If that doesn't work then I'll post the latest file.

That file is the windows update manager, so if you do what Hybrid says, you should be ok

errrr.....
u say that shud work, and u say i need my 'windows xp disk', well me pc didnt come with a windows xp disk.
it was already on the comp wen i got it.

shud i do that thing you sed anyway?

Hi WiGGy,

Without the Windows XP CDROM the System File Checker cannot function. It works by replacing corrupt or missing files on your hard drive with new ones from the Windows XP Installer CDROM.

You will just keep receiving errors if you tried this command without it!

I'll upload the mfc42.dll later, see if that cures the problem - if not we'll try replacing the updmgr.exe. It could also be a registry problem thats causing this.
