Site Downtime - Server Change
Digital Port has grown over the years, and we are out-growing the current server rapidly. So to prevent the site shutting down completely, this already happens if we schedule a backup - we've decided its time to upgrade to a VPS, this allows us to have much more space, bandwidth, resource limitations lifted and we will have full control of the new server.
Due to the traffic we are now experiencing, some website scripts have been failing. Currently, the site is run on 'shared' hosting with thousands of other websites on the same server. We are in the process of moving the whole website to a Fully Managed Virtual Private Server (VPS), this is required so the website remains stable. We also have to move several other websites which are linked to this server, but these are very small.
During the site 'move' we may experience downtime, this is due to the site being backed up, compressed and all data being moved to the new server. The size of the site makes this a time-consuming operation, which we will try and make as smooth as possible.
At present we cannot say when this will occur, the VPS is being setup at the moment to allow the transfer. For the entire transfer, including changing our nameservers and pointers, we will probably be looking at approximately 48-72hrs - this is estimated, since it relies on propagation across the globe, meaning some people will see the new server before others.
We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
