Well, I done a dumb thing... I had 2 hard drives both labelled Backup, but one I wanted to format - however I accidentially formatted my main backup drive with over 15mths of documents on! Of course I didn't think there was a way of retrieving the data, however I found there are thousands of programs around that will get your data back, mainly for preview only of files until you pay for the program.
I tried a few of these programs, one I left running over night, but because I had so much data to recover it renamed all my folders like dir001, etc - so there was thousands of folders I would have to rename. I have found one program that seems to work better than the rest called
GetBackData for NTFS - which costs $69 if you want to fully recover your files and folders. It takes roughly a hour for every 50Gb of data retrieved, so I'm waiting for the outcome, since I accidentially formatted a 300Gb partition.
Stupid me... next time I'll double check before formatting again!
