Tuesday 29th January, 2008 - Got Casper weighed today for flea drops, due to his weight it would not be wise to buy the drops for a 6 months which only went to 20kg - in his case it is easier and better to buy flea and worming drops in one. He popped the scales at just over 12 kilos this week, but I had to buy food at nearly £40.00 for a 30kg bag, which should last about a month - hopefully.

I'll add some new photographs very soon...

Tuesday 22nd January, 2008 - Casper was weighed today, and had put on roughly 2kg in a week, taking is overall weight to just under 2 stone. The reason for getting him weighed is to make sure he is receiving the correct amount of food for his weight/age. He's currently eating around 0.55kg of food a day which is around the right amount. Unlike most dogs, he will only eat a certain amount of food at a time even though his bowl does have some left - he tends to eat often and when he wants it, not when we put it down. His next weigh in will be on 4th February 2008 at 11 weeks.

He's bathed every Sunday, obviously this will change when he becomes an adult along with food intake. He's also now losing his puppy fur, and this is being replaced by more course hair.

Monday 14th January, 2008 - Casper visited the vets today. Mainly for his first set of injections, check-over, microchipped and worming. He's now just over 8 weeks old and already weighs just over 9 kilo's - the vet estimated that when adulthood is reached in 18 months - 2 years, he will be around 100lb's or more. Many people have commented on him, thinking he is a pure bred Pyrenean, yet this is not the case. Today's vet bill was just over £80.00GBP, that was on top of one of our previous bills for one of our cats last week for £60.00GBP. His next appointment at the vets is on the 4th February 2008 for his final injection.

He's only been with us for roughly 4 days, and doesn't like the original Large Breed Puppy food from Beta which he had before. He's become very fussy with food and will only eat Hills Science Diet, which hasn't upset his stomach at all. We've been told this can be normal with some dogs, but not all.

Our Boxer/Pyrenean Mountain Dog is now just 8 weeks old, and already bigger than some breeds. Trying to ween him off the Large Breed Puppy food by Beta and changing it to Hill's Science Diet for Large Breeds, but he seems to pick out the Science Diet food.

Already, understands certain commands like 'Sit', 'Stay' and will come by his name - and we've only had him in our house for a day. Seems to very intelligent, and easy to train.

Probably, would have bought two of these dogs, if we could afford to feed them. Definately not the sort of breed you would buy, if you can't afford huge food bills, vet bills and the highest dog insurance.

I was quoted by our vet that the food bill for the first year will be around £480.00, injections £37.00 and micro-chipped £25.00.
