Important Forthcoming Site Changes
From early December we will be making major alterations to the site in general. This will coincide with all new changes being introduced already. The site will be offline while we make these changes, for approximately 3hrs while everything is setup and configured.
We will be introducing all of the following:
- Social Networking: (like MySpace, etc) where you can add buddies, customizable profiles, and members will have their own picture albums. Inline editing of content within your profile page, without having to re-load the entire page.
- Public Groups: Members will be able to create their own groups (maybe you have a hobby and want to share), these come complete with albums.
- No Spam Tolerance: People caught posting spam on any forum will be banned for one week, if further violations are made then we will issue a life ban and all IP address block.
- Thread tagging: Whenever you start a new thread, you will be able to add tags to your post. A tag cloud will be available showing the most popular, and fully searchable.
- Thread Prefixes: You will be able to select a prefix to your post; this will show up when you post your message, and allow us to reply to important threads first.
- Public Messaging: You’ve probably all seen or used our Private Messaging service, but with the new changes, you will be able to post public messages directly to a friend’s profile (like MySpace, etc). You will have full moderation over what messages are posted within your profile.
- Lightbox: Upon clicking any small image will automatically dim the window and show you a larger version, this is dependent on your browser window size.
- Automated Messaging System: We will have a new messaging system which will display to individual members, depending on their current status.
- New Registration Verification Process: Up until now we use image verification, to stop 'spambots' from registering and spamming the forums, this will be changed to a question system with variable answers - if you enter the wrong answer your registration will fail. Also note that we do not except registrations from Hotmail, MSN or Yahoo email addresses (if you enter one of these, you will see a 'banned' message, it does not refer to you as an individual being banned, only the email address you are trying to use during registration.
We hope you will enjoy all the new features, and please update your profile. In early 2008 we will be running a special competition, with cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
